Farm bureau says Ky. food prices decline in 2009
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation survey has found that food prices in the state declined by 5.6 percent in 2009.
A statement from Kentucky Farm Bureau says a December survey of 40 popular grocery items showed an average total cost of $105.28, compared with $111.63 at the beginning of 2009.
The December cost average was 1 cent higher than the previous survey in October.
Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation conducts the survey as a tool to reflect retail food pricing trends and their relationship to what farmers receive for their raw commodities.
